  • Sumrin Spitfire

    Born: 29 May, 2023

    Sire: Airborne Montgomery

    Dam: Sumrin Star of Hope

    Colour: Bay

Spitfire is a promising colt, which we have retained because of his pure quality Unfortunately, he is too closely related to our ponies, so we are looking for a good home for him.

He is a good mover and combines good conformation with very nice markings: 4 whites and a blaze. He will stay under 116 cm, which means he can compete in the smallest classes for ridden..

His sire is Airborne Montgomery, a first premium graded stallion at the NWPCS. He is a son of Mariska, a mare that has gained the premiums kroon, preferent and sport with the NWPCS.

His dam is the lead mare at Sumrin at this point in time and we are retaining his half sister.

Spitfire is the first foal of the 7th generation of Welsh Mountain ponies at Sumrin. he is line bred to our foundation mare, Dyrin Tina, and we believe he will be throwing consistent stock.

Montgomery's sire is Sunwillow Troy, who has produced some good stock while in the in the Netherlands.

    Born, 1976
    Owned by: Fam. Schilthuis

Sumrin Sunstar was born in 1976 in Lierop at Sumrin. He was the very first foal we had by Vardra Julius

Mr. Spronken of Varpullan wanted to produce him for the stallion inspection, so Sunstar was shown in joint ownership with Mr. Spronken.

Sumrin Sunstar was approved in 1979 with a first premium standing second to Biesdeel's Sedan, just before Sumrin Tristan who was standing third. Sunstar was sold to the Schilthuis family of Windhoek stud, where he did well siring good stock. Interesting enough, he ended up high in the sire ratings, to equal his famous father's ratings, but in that very same year he was gelded, because nobody wanted a palomino at the time.

Unfortunately, his influence to the breed has become very limited. There is one section B stallion that traces back to him, named Dominant van de Gaweg.

    Born, 1993
    Owned by: Siemers

Sumrin Thor was born in 1993 in Lierop at Sumrin. He was something else, as he was the first bay foal we ever had of the line of Dyrin Tina. As a foal, he gained a first premium, where he was picked up by the family Maat of the renowned Kompas and Ruimzicht studs. After some years of stud duty, he was spot by the family Siemers in Germany of Leybucht stud, where he did bring successful stock, including some licensed sons for the Weser-Ems area.

We actually did take Sumrin Tessa to Thor, to produce Sumrin Teas. This made Teas the first ever foal at Sumrin to have two crosses of Dyrin Tina.

One successful line of Sumrin Thor in the Netherlands is that of his daughter Kompas Yvana, who is mother of Kompas Ylona (by Revel Paul Jones, a son of Dyfed Geraint). Ylona is a successful breeding mare in the province of Drenthe (north Netherlands)

Sumrin Tristan was born in 1976 in Lierop at Sumrin. He was the very first foal Tina gave birth to. It was quite a sunny day in the middle of the field, near a small tree. We still have photo's of the event at home.

As a foal, we showed him along with his mother. In the 1976 Regional show at Bavel, he won his class, where his mother won a supreme chamionship.

As we did not keep stallions at all in those days, my father decided to sell him to a collegue of his, just as a riding pony. One year later someone came to us and asked us what happened to that handsome colt. That man was Mr. van Zeeland. He decided to go and check him out. He was lucky, because Mr. van Hest had just decided to geld him. The deal was made quickly, Mr. van Hest bought a filly (Sumrin Smaragd by Leith Popover) and Tristan went to Mr. van Zeeland.

In 1979, Tristan had to show up for the inspection. It was a recession time for stallions, and only 12 section A's appered for the licence. 4 got accepted. Tristan was placed third with a second premium, just behind his old stablemate, Sumrin Sunstar (second, with a first premium)

At the show, Tristan was sold to the north of the Netherlands, at that time a beginning area. Even today, we find many of the national qualifiers from that area going back to Tristan.

At the age of 10, he gained a licence for three years, based on his merits in breeding.

At the age of 13, they gave him a first premium for the first time. Tristan was sold immediately to Mr. Vrolijken. In 1991, Tristan transferred to the Valkenhof stud of Mr. Jan Steenblik.

From 1994-1997, he has been at stud with Mr. Noten.

From 1997 Until january 2000, he has stayed with Mr. van der Water of the Zonnekamp stud.

Since January 2000, Tristan stayed at Mr Gerrit and Mrs. Janet Menninga's stud of Welsh Mountain ponies. Tristan passed away in 2003

Most famous descendants of Sumrin Tristan are:

    • Coelenhage's Carmen out of Lange Voren Carola
    • Hieleen out of Moorland's Mapleleaf
    • Powerful's Shirly out of Maaskant's Brigitte

  • Sumrin Tysilio

Tysilio at the International Welsh Friends Border Show in Chaam

    Born 2007

    Registered with WPCS and NWPCS
Owned by: Ute Franke, Echteld and Joost van Gestel, Reuver

Sumrin Tysilio was born in 2007 in Lierop at Sumrin. He was a super foal, by Royal Welsh champion Vechtzicht Hywel out of our own champion mare Sumrin Taru. Both grand dams were national champion of the Netherlands and both grandsire have an impressive record as a stock getter.

Tysilio spent one winter with us in Reuver, after which we sold him to the late Hans van de Nieuwenhuizen. Hans showed him at the stallion inspection in 2010. Unfortunately, Tysilio caught a severe cold just two weeks before the inspection and although Tysilio was selected to the second inspection,  he was the last colt not making the premium.

After the stallion inspection, Tysilio was trained for harness and under saddle and was sold to serve mares in Friesland with the Jelsma family. In April 2016, he was acquired by Ute Franke and Joost van Gestel.

He was entered in two shows for 2016. At his second show, the WPCV summer show in Wezep, he won the senior stallion class against tough competition.

Tysilio has strong and correct movements. Tysilio is trained for saddle, harness as well as halter classes. He has a very kind disposition, up to a point where he can be trusted with small children. This summer, he was running out with the mares, after which we still showed him for fun.

Tysilio has bred offspring before and proves fertile. He was born chestnut and although he has two grey parents, he is heterozygous for the grey gene and will throw other colours than grey.

Tysilio has had the following registered offspring:

gave us a filly foal: Sumrin Satuout of Sumrin Saint Mary

For 2018, Sumrin Tysilio covered 6 mares, 5 of which are scanned in foal, the sixth not scanned:

    • Sumrin Satu out of Sumrin Saint Mary (2017)
    • Sharonahoeve Sandy out of Rivendells Sulien (2018)
    • Sharonahoeve Ian out of Kluishoek's Iliena (2018)

    • Sharonahoeve Pappilio out of Challenge Pansy (2018)
    • Sharonahoeve Tamita out of Sumrin Tatum O'Neill (2019)

Sumrin Tysilio was gelded in 2019 and is now a riding and driving pony.

    Born: 2003
    Breeder: Fam. Van Daalen, Emmeloord
    Owned by: Fam Petith, Germany

We always followed the offspring of Coelenhage's Carmen well, as she is exquisitely bred, being by Sumrin Tristan out of a mare by Roman Springlight and Glenfield Chocolate Cream. It is hard to find such breeding in a pony. We were delighted to hear Carmen had a good colt by the well known champion stallion Vechtzicht's Hywel in 2003. At age three, Cassanova was exported to Germany to start a showing career at Sadiqui stud, after which he also spent time at the Springfire stud and is currently at Horseland stud of Torsten and Kerstin Petith.

    Some of Cassanova's successes

    • - Section A champion at the Bundesschau 2006
      - Overall Supreme Champion Regionalschau Rheinland 2008
